Galatians knew that they had received the Holy Spirit when they believed, not when they obeyed the law. People still feel insecure in their faith because people still try to get closer to God by the normal Christian habits of Bible study and prayer. While these may help us grow, they must not take place of the Holy Spirit inside us. The Holy Spirit gives Christians great power to live for God.

Some Christians want more than this. Some Christians want to live in a state of perpetual and spiritual excitement. The tedium of everyday life leads them to conclude that something is wrong spiritually. Often the Holy Spirit’s greatest work is teaching us to persist, to keep on doing what is right even when it no longer seems interesting and exciting. The Galatians quickly swerved away from the gospel and went straight for the false prophets; what they needed was the Holy Spirit’s gift of persistence. If the Christian life seems ordinary, we may need to ask the Holy Spirit to rekindle inside of us. Every day offers a challenge to live for Christ.

Galatians 3:5
So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?
