In verse twenty Paul says it is his ambition to preach the gospel wherever the gospel was not known. Ambition can be a difficult topic for Christians because we see so many bad examples of ambitious people who work their way up to the top. We see that this is not that type of ambition we see in Paul. Instead of looking out for himself and working hard for his personal advancement, he was ambitious to the preach the gospel wherever God sent him. From seeing Apostle Paul’s example, we need to ask ourselves if we are truly ambitious for God and ask God for holy ambition to be able to do his service. In verse twenty-two, Paul states that he as often been hindered to be able to visit the church of Rome. Paul wanted to visit the church in Rome, but he had delayed his visit because he heard good reports of a revival through the gospel. This proving his desire to be able to preach in areas that had not heard the Good News of Christ.

Romans 15:20-22
20 It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation. 21 Rather, as it is written:
“Those who were not told about him will see,
and those who have not heard will understand.”[a]
22 This is why I have often been hindered from coming to you.
