Our outer self decays every day. It happens automatically due to the presence of sin. It is God’s will however that our inner self should be renewed every day too. But this does not happen automatically.

Most believers are not being renewed every day because they do not do the one thing Jesus said we should do every day- take up his cross (Luke 9:23).

To be renewed in our inner self is to partake increasingly of the life of Jesus within. This can come only as we bear in our bodies the dying of Jesus daily.

Every single day has its allotted quota of trials, troubles, and temptations. It is in these trials that we are to bear the cross and die to ourselves.

It is not the will of God that we live an up-and-down life. He desires that our lives move consistently only upwards- the inner self being constantly renewed.

So we must steadfastly set our face to bear the death of Jesus at every opportunity that we get every day in order to spiritually grow.
