In verses fifty to fifty-three, Paul basically states that with our own flesh and blood we cannot inherit the kingdom of God.

We all face limitations. Those who have physical, mental, or emotional disabilities are especially aware of this.

Paul in these verses basically gives us all who have any earthly limitations hope – that we will be perfected and made new with bodies that are completely free of sin.

In verse fifty-one, “we will not sleep” means that the Christians alive on the day the Christ comes back will not have to die but will be transformed immediately.

A trumpet blast will usher in the new heaven and earth. The Jews would completely understand the significance of this because trumpets were always blown to signal of great festivals and other extraordinary events.

50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.
