There was a man named Nicodemus. He was one of the Pharisees and teachers of the law. He had seen Jesus’ amazing teachings and miracles, so he wanted to talk to Him. Nicodemus went at night to talk to Jesus because he was scared about the judgments of the Pharisees. Jesus tells Nicodemus that he must be born again. Nicodemus questions Jesus that he cannot have another physical birth.
We, in hindsight, know that Jesus is talking about spiritual rebirth. We must take the initiative to try to please the Creator of the Universe. God loved us enough to send His Son for the atonement of sins. Jesus is telling us that we must strive toward spiritual rebirth. We must come out of our sinful selves who were blinded from the truth to becoming Jesus’ disciples. We must be born again in our thoughts, actions, and words. We must strive to be like Jesus. By leading our lives like Christ, we are honoring our faithful Father, the sacrificial Son, and the helpful Holy Spirit. Let us not waste our lives with things that are temporary, but we must focusing on altering our lives so that we can be spiritually reborn in the name of Christ.
John 3:1-8Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”
Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
