If we are running a 100-meter dash, we would run as fast as we can possibly run. When we are out at sea in a rowboat and a storm is arriving, then we would row as fast possible to get back to shore. If we are in a rain storm and our hats fell off, then we would run as fast as possible to get them back.

It is good to do things quickly if needed. But some things must be done slowly. For instance if we eat ice cream too fast, then we will get a headache. If we rush in our homework or work, our work ethic will go down. Sometimes it is good to go fast, but other times it is good to be slow.

The Bible states when we should be fast or slow. The book of James states that we must be quick to listen to God. This means that we must listen to the instructions and commands of God and put it into practice immediately. But James says that we must be slow to speak and slow to anger. This means when we are upset, we must try to contain our emotions and not let our body and verbal languages hurt others in anyways. Let us as Christians be quick to the obedience of our heavenly father, and let us be slow to the path of sin through our emotions and defiance towards God’s commands.

James 1:19
