In verse fourteen, Paul states how he is obligated to Greeks and non-Greeks. By “Greeks and non-Greeks,” Paul was referring to those in the Greek culture and to those who are not in this culture. The words “wise and foolish” refer to educated and uneducated people. After Paul’s life-changing experience at Damascus, his whole life was centered around the urgent desire to preach the gospel to everyone he meets. Paul’s obligation was to preach the gospel to everyone across all cultural, social, racial, and economic lines. As Christians, we are obligated to do the same. What should encourage us to do so is remembering that Christ willingly paid the price that all of us had to pay. Although we cannot thank God for everything, we can show our gratitude by preaching the gospel and showing love to other people.
