Paul is basically explaining the ugly truth. All of us-pagan Gentiles, undecided, and religious people are condemned by our own actions. The law, which God gave to us to help us live, shows us exactly where we are making our mistakes. The law condemns us; it is not where we get our hope. God himself is our hope. God, in His righteousness and unfailing love, gives us the chance of eternal life. We receive our salvation not through law but through faith in Jesus Christ. We all know that we are not qualified to have eternal life, but God gives salvation to us as a gift.
