The gift of prophecy may involve predicting future events, but its main purpose is to communicate God’s message to His people—providing insight, warning, correction, and encouragement.

The gift of speaking in a tongue was a concern in the Corinthian church because the use of the gift had caused disorder in worship.

Speaking in tongues is not something made up or untruthful, but it is a 100% legitimate gift of the Holy Spirit.

The problem was the people abusing the gift by feeling spiritual superiority among the congregation.

Spiritual gifts are only beneficial when the main objective is the spiritual unity of believers. If we are given any of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, we must be godly stewards of the gift or gifts.

When Christ told the parable of the three stewards, he made it clear that if we use the gifts God has given us, we will be physically and eternally blessed; but if we abuse them, there will be consequences. In next post, we will dive into the core purpose of tongues.

For anyone who speaks in a tongue[a] does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.
