Churches around the world reiterate the same message of Jesus becoming the incarnate Son of God who carried the sinful burden of all humanity. But sometimes we fail to realize the extreme depths Christ took to exercise his humility.

In the gospel of Mark, Christ emphasizes that animals have shelter to retreat to but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head. Jesus became poor by giving up his rights as God and becoming human. As a man, Jesus, like us, was subject to the limitations of being a human such as place and time. In response to the Father’s will, he limited his power and set aside his glory and his rights. The power of the gospel is breathtaking once an individual realizes that Christ became poor in order to make us rich in him.

2 Corinthians 8:9
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.
