Paul says that we should give out of what we have, not what we don’t have. Sacrificial giving must be responsible.
Paul wants believers to give generously, but not to the extent that who depend on the givers. We must give until it hurts us, but we must not give that it hurts our family and/or relatives who need our financial support.

One of the biggest burdens in today’s society is money. As God’s people, we must allow God to give us peace amidst the good and bad financial circumstances. Paul basically implies in this passage that though it is very difficult, we as God’s people must be content and trust that money we have is part of God’s plan and will one day be brought into fruition.

For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.
