Posted by Jonathan Merigala God wants you to be sons and daughters- not servants. A servant only thinks of the minimum that he has to do for his master. A daughter or son, however, thinks of the maximum that he or she can do for their Father.
That is one of the main differences between the spirit of the old covenant and the spirit of the new. God’s promise in the Old Testament was: “Those who honor me I will honor” (1 Samuel 2:30). Jesus expanded that to say, “If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him” (John 12:26).
And here Jesus explained what it meant to serve him. He said that those who serve the Lord have to follow Him-and this meant falling into the ground and dying as he did and hating our life in this world as He will be honored by the Father. Such believers become true sons and daughters who serve the Lord.
