Not only is Paul talking about ministry’s teamwork, but also he talks about some preachers. Some speakers use impressive words, but they are weak on content. Paul stressed solid content and practical help for his listeners. Paul wanted his listeners to impressed with his message rather than his style. Paul is saying that you don’t have to be a great speaker or have taken any type of seminary in order to convey the gospel effectively. The persuasive power is the message or story, not the storyteller. Paul is not against those who carefully prepare themselves, but against those who try to impress others with their own knowledge or speaking ability. The gospel has the power to cut to the heart and change anyone from their worldly ways.

17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
