The time had come when the Israelites would finally be free from the cruel arm of Egypt. The Israelites had been Egyptian slaves for four hundred years. God has sent them a leader, Moses, to take them away from the overwhelming bondage. The night before the Israelites were to leave, God told Moses to tell the people special instructions. Each family were to slaughter a perfect lamb and spread its blood on their doors. God sent an angel of darkness to wipe out every firstborn child in the land of Egypt, and the only way they could be saved is through the blood on their doors. When the angel of darkness passed over, all the Israelites were saved.

In the same context, Jesus is the Holy Lamb of God. We were all destined to eternal death and torment, but through the blood of the Lamb we are freed from the clutches of sin. Just as the Israelites were saved from the death angel through the blood of the lambs, we are saved from hell through the precious and perfect blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Let us as Christians take this into heart knowing that we were all destined to be attacked by the death angel, but through the overwhelming power of Jesus’ blood, we are saved and redeemed.

Exodus 12:13

The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.
