In these verses, Paul answers a common objection to belief in God. The common objection is: how could a loving God send anyone to hell, especially those who have not heard the gospel. Paul states that God has revealed himself in the creation to all people, yet people reject the basic knowledge of God. Also, every human being has an inner sense of what God requires, but they chose not to live out their accordingly. If people suppress God’s truth in order to live their own way, then they have no excuse. They know the truth, and they will have to endure the consequences of ignoring it.

Romans 1:18-20
18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
