In verse twenty, Paul expands on a common topic regarding evangelism. Often we are concerned about what we could be doing for God somewhere else that we miss great opportunities right where we are. Paul says that when someone becomes a Christian, he or she should usually continue with the work he or she has previously been doing as long as it is not immoral or unethical. Every job can become Christian work when we realize that the purpose of our lives is to honor, serve, and speak out for Christ. Many times we look at missionaries around the world going into the field of persecution and think that their work for the Lord is more important or more valuable. But the truth is God has placed each one us in a mission field to evangelize. Just because people go the depths of the world to preach the gospel, it does not make them superior to us. It is all based on God’s calling for each of us. Because God has placed us where we are, we should constantly be looking for opportunities to serve him.
