In verse two Paul talks about the Spirit of life. The Spirit of life is the Holy Spirit. He was present at the creation of the world, and he is the power behind the rebirth of every Christian life. He gives us the power we need to live out the Christian life. In verse three Paul talks about God sending his Son to be the sin offering for all humans. In Old Testament times, animal sacrifices were continually offered at the temple. The sacrifices showed the Israelites the seriousness and severity of sin. Blood had to be shed before sins could be pardoned, but animal blood does not actually remove sin. The sacrifices only point to the ultimate sacrifice ahead of Jesus Christ, which paid the penalty for all sin.

2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you[a] free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh,[b] God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering.[c] And so he condemned sin in the flesh,
