Posted by Jonathan Merigala In this verse, Jesus talks about the new covenant. Let us all evaluate what is this new covenant.
In the old covenant, people could approach God only through the priests and the sacrificial system. Jesus’ death on the cross ushered in the new covenant of agreement between God and us. Now all people can personally go to God and communicate with him at any time.
The Israelites first entered into this agreement after their exodus from Egypt, and it was designed to point to the day when Jesus Christ would come.
The new covenant completes the old covenant by fulfilling everything the old covenant looked forward to.
Eating the bread and drinking the cup shows we are remembering Christ’s death and renewing our commitment to serve him.
1 Corinthians 11:25
In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
