We have arrived at one of the most famous and crucial passages in all of Scripture.

In 1 Corinthians 13, God defines true love. God’s love is unfathomable because “even when we were sinners, Christ died for us”.

In today’s culture, it is rare for anyone to die for someone else unless it is close family or relatives. It is also rare even for someone to die for a righteous and holy person, yet God’s love is so unique in that even though we did not have a chance to make things right with God on our own merit and accomplishments, he willingly sacrificed his own beloved son.

In this chapter, Paul elaborates on the characteristics of true and pure love. Paul also emphasizes that love is more important than all the spiritual gifts exercises in the church body. Love is what makes our actions and gifts useful.

If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
