In verse five, Paul was saying that these “marvelous teachers” (“super apostles”) were no better than he was. They may have been more eloquent speakers, but they spoke lies and were servants of Satan. Paul was a brilliant thinker but was not a trained, spellbinding speaker. Although Paul’s ministry was very effective, he had not been trained in the Greek schools of oratory.

Paul believed in the simple presentation of the gospel, but some people at that time though Paul was simple-minded due to his presentation.

Content is far more important than the presentation. A simple, clear message that helps listeners understand is of greater value.

Many people feel in today’s society feel if they cannot sing, speak, teach, or preach as well as their idolized heroes, they are insecure about saying and doing anything. There are many preachers who do not focus on the gospel, and rather focus on acquiring wealth and fame. Many of these speakers are eloquent speakers who have gone to seminary in order to portray the gospel in every way possible whether it is simple or difficult to understand but for the wrong reasons.

We must never pity ourselves that we cannot live up the level of a certain preacher or singer, rather we must accept our limitations with the same humility as we accept the strengths God has given us.

I do not think I am in the least inferior to those “super-apostles.” I may indeed be untrained as a speaker, but I do have knowledge. We have made this perfectly clear to you in every way.
