The Corinthian church had written to Paul questions about their faith. Paul had planned to visit them again, but instead, he wrote a letter that caused sorrow but also caused them to change their ways. Paul did not want to repeat the same advice for the same problem. He wrote the emotional letter to encourage them to follow the advice that he had previously stated.

In verse twenty-four, Paul encourages us to stand firm. Standing firm is not a way to be saved but the evidence that a person is truly committed to Christ.

Endurance grows out of commitment to Jesus Christ. Times of trials distinguish the true believers from those who are fake or who want the title of being a Christian for benefits.

We must yearn to stand up Christ among the tribulations by remembering the benefits and the sacrifice of Christ.

As today is 9/11, I want to reach out to all the hurting families out there who have lost loved ones and have been emotionally or physically scarred from this inhumane terrorist attacks. I also want to honor and thank all the brave souls out there who risked their lives for the welfare of others. My message for everyone is suffering is to remember God is sovereign and has a divine plan for each and every one of us. It is when we trust in him, God will give us the peace and hope that surpasses all understanding and hardships.

2 Corinthians 1:23-24
23 I call God as my witness—and I stake my life on it—that it was in order to spare you that I did not return to Corinth. 24 Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, because it is by faith you stand firm.
