Posted by Jonathan Merigala In verses three and four, Paul states that Jesus is the Son of God, the promised Messiah, and the Redeemer of humanity. Paul called Jesus Christ as a descendant of King David to emphasize that Christ has fulfilled all the prophecies to be the Messiah. With these words, Paul shows full compliance with the gospel and the teaching of the other apostles. In verse five Paul summarizes the gospel of Jesus Christ. The book of Roman is basically an expansion or elaboration of the themes of the gospel.
Romans 1:3-5
3 regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life[a] was a descendant of David, 4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power[b] by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. 5 Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from[c] faith for his name’s sake.
