In this chapter, he once again continues his “boasting” in order to establish his credibility to the false prophets. Paul continues his “boasting” by talking about visions and revelations he had received from the Lord. “I know a man in Christ” means he was talking about himself. He explained that he did not know if he was taken up in his body or in his spirit, but he was in paradise. Paradise is known as “the third heaven” or the highest part of the heavens. Paradise is located beyond the atmosphere and the stars, and is where God himself lives. Paul told them about this incident in order to prove to them that he had been uniquely touched and chosen by God himself.

I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. 2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. 3 And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows—
