In verse seven Paul explains how it is rare for someone to die for a righteous person. In verse eight Paul explains how Christ died for us while we were still sinners. “While we were sinners” are amazing words. God sent Jesus Christ to die for us, not because we were morally good enough, but because he loved us. Whenever we feel uncertain about the extent of God’s love, we must remember that he loved us even before we became Christians. If God loved us when we were completely against him, then he will strengthen us now that we are returning love to him through our thoughts and deeds.

Romans 5:7-8
7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
