In verse one, Paul humbly calls himself a servant of Jesus Christ and an apostle. We must remember that Paul was a Roman citizen, and Roman citizens regarded themselves as the best and the conquerors of the world. When Paul called himself a servant, that is clear evidence that God has changed Paul 180 degrees. Paul decided to completely obey and depend on his Master, Jesus Christ. Our willingness to obey Jesus Christ makes us a better vessel to be used for his glory. Obedience begins when we deny all the other masters we serve. We should instill our identity in the name of Jesus Christ because that is all that matters.
