1 Corinthians 14:14 says that our mind cannot understand what we are saying when we speak in tongues. So we do not try to analyze our speech when we speak in tongues.

Faith is not against reason, but it is far beyond reason—just like calculus is far beyond simple addition. We live in a world where major emphasis is placed on the mind and the reason.

But the human spirit God has placed within us is greater than our mind. This is why our mind cannot understand the language of the spirit.

We do not destroy our intelligence, for it is a wonderful gift of God, but we do have to dethrone it.

Paul said that he spoke in tongues more than anyone else—perhaps he faced more pressure in his ministry than all the others and therefore needed it more than others.

The gift of speaking in tongues can strengthen us when we are discouraged, when we are under pressure, when we cannot think of anything in particular to pray about, when we have a mental block in figuring out how to pray for a complicated situation, or when we are just too tired to concentrate and need some immediate relaxation.

We can lie on our beds and pray in tongues. With the gift of tongues, you can effectively pour out your heart to our heavenly Father, in syllables that you do not understand yourself, but that expresses your heart’s deepest desires.
