In verses twenty-three to twenty-five, Paul talks about the battle our bodies go through between our sinful nature and the Holy Spirit. The “law at work in the members of my body” is the sin deep within us. This is our vulnerability to sin. There is great tension in the daily Christian experience. The conflict is that we agree with God’s commands but cannot do them. This inward struggle with sin was as real for Paul as it is for us. Whenever he felt overwhelmed by the spiritual battle, he would return to the beginnings of his spiritual life. When we feel confused and overwhelmed by sin’s appeal, let us claim the freedom Christ gave us. His power can lift us to victory.

Romans 7:23-25
23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature[a] a slave to the law of sin.
