In verse one, Paul reassures Christians to continue to have hope during ministry.

In verse two, Paul condemns those who twist God’s word. Preachers, teachers, and anyone else that talk about Jesus Christ must remember that they stand in God’s presence—he hears every word. Many Christian ministers and leaders twist words in their attempt to motivate their audiences for wrong reasons especially for contributions toward the ministry. Other ministers tend to proof-text (i.e. taking scripture out of context) in order to bolster their own views and biblical doctrine. When we as Christians share the gospel, we must be careful not to distort the message to please our audience. We must put our full faith in the inerrancy and truth of God’s Word.

2 Corinthians 4:1-2
Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. 2 Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.
