Very simply stated, truth is “telling it like it is.”

When the Roman governor Pilate asked Jesus “what is truth?” nearly 2000 years ago, he did not have to wait for Jesus to respond. Instead, Pilate immediately acknowledged that he found no fault in Jesus. By exonerating Christ, Pilate was “telling it like it is.”

Contrary to what is taught in many public schools, truth is not relative but absolute. If something is true, it is true for all people, at all times, and in all places.

Truth is discovered, not invented. It exists independent of anyone’s knowledge of it. Issac Newton did not invent gravity but merely discovered it.

Truth is transcultural.

As previously stated, if something is true, it is true for all peoples, in all places, and at all times. For instance, 2+2=4 for everyone, everywhere, at every time.

Truth does not change even though our beliefs about truth may change.

When an individual begins to believe the earth is round instead of flat, the truth about the earth did not change –  only his belief about the earth changed. Someone could sincerely believe that the earth is flat, but that only makes the person sincerely mistaken.

Beliefs cannot change facts, no matter how passionately one might feel about a specific topic.

Finally, all truths are absolute truths. Even truths that appear relative as essentially absolute. For example, I could say that I was cold on April 17, 2006. It appears to be a relative truth, but it is absolutely true for everyone, everywhere that Jonathan Merigala had a cold sensation on that day.
