In verse one and two, Paul reminds his brothers in Christ what exactly they are standing for as Christians.

Paul makes a critical point that all of us as Christians must understand. There are hundreds of religions out there that falsely promise eternal life and blessings through the merit of an individual. One of the factors that make Christianity so distinguishable is that our heavenly Father does not require us to enhance our morality so that some day we will be able to reach his level of perfection. God only requires us to believe in the saving grace of his Son and commit our lives to his service.

But Paul states that the resurrection of Christ is the focal point of Christianity. He says in verse two that if Christ did not resurrect from the grave and is still in the tomb, then the faith that we strongly believe is of no value.

Many religions say that their god created the earth and given us certain guidelines through which we attain perfection. But Christianity is the only where a God loved his people so much that he chased after us to bring us back into his family. Not only that, but Christianity is the only religion where a dead man was raised back to life. That is the power of the Resurrection of Christ.

Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
